Welcome

I’m Adam Whitney, a metalsmith who forms silver, copper, bronze and gold entirely by hand. From my studio in Western North Carolina, I raise hollowware vessels from single discs of metal, drawing inspiration from antiquity, exploration, and the disciplined rhythm of hammering. My work bridges historical forms with contemporary ideas, resulting in objects that feel both familiar and unexpected.

From sea-monster stirrup cups to astronaut-inspired rhytons, my practice moves between ancient objects and contemporary imagery, connecting centuries of craft through low-tech methods and high ambition. Working full-time from my studio in Western North Carolina, I create one-of-a-kind objects that merge history, imagination, and technical rigor into forms meant to surprise, challenge, and spark curiosity.

Explore the site to see what I’m working on now, how each piece is made, and where the research is leading. You’ll find documentation of process, technique, and the ideas that shape the work—whether that’s historical reference, material investigation, or the long arc of a project unfolding at the hammering stake.
