Carriage Cups

Carriage Cups are made from Britannia Silver which is 95.8% pure silver and 4.2% copper. This alloy is very similar to Sterling Silver but is nicer to work with. These cups are hammered from a thick sheet of material measuring 3” in diameter. By hammering and stretching the metal the walls of the cups are raised leaving a heavier base allowing the cups to wobbly and always stay upright. Influenced from a mid 1700 carriage cup these weighted bottom “tumblers” were utilized in horse drawn carriages and ships to reduce spilling. Although you’re probably not traveling with these cups they are extremely enjoyable to interact with while enjoying your favorite drink.
