Sea Monster Stirrup Cup 005 represents a major turning point. After years of saving for the gold I needed for the eventual gold cup, I found I had to return to silver first. I needed to reenter the mindset of the series and rebuild my relationship with these forms. SM005 was born entirely from imagination and exploration. It also marks the beginning of my interest in documenting my process. Learning photography, filming, and working on an ambitious design at the same time became its own artistic challenge, ultimately culminating in the book dedicated to this piece.
